This year’s 23rd Annual Camp Meeting was especially a blessing with the running theme “Reviving Thy Work” taken from Habakkuk 3:2:
O Lord, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O Lord, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
We learned that there is a specific work that God is seeking to revive in these last days in order to hasten the coming of our Lord. That work specifically is working the cities from outpost centers in order to prepare a people to stand during the investigative judgment. God is seeking to establish many of these small, home-like “outpost centers” throughout the land in order that gospel medical missionary evangelists might go “out” from them into the cities to do a work of evangelism that will bring those from the cities back to the outpost to learn of God’s works and ways.
We were reminded of the importance of growing our own food and developing a strong agricultural program since we are told,
Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions; for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one. We should now begin to heed the instruction given us over and over again: Get out of the cities into rural districts, where the houses are not crowded closely together, and where you will be free from the interference of enemies. {CL 9.5}
Not only because of religious aggression should we heed the instruction to move from the cities to rural districts but, more importantly, in the wisdom of God it is only in such an environment that our minds could truly connect with Heaven and our characters transformed into His image. God is waiting for one thing— the restoration of His image in His people.
We also saw one of the avenues where we could work the cities effectively is by running “Hygienic Cooking Schools” in many places. Using the right arm of health reform, many doors could be opened to the truth by this type of evangelistic work.
Throughout the Camp Meeting we were given practical lessons on how to use clay medicinally for many ailments such as insect bites and wounds and masks; how to breathe to the glory of God in “Reviving the Lungs”, the role of a sound mind in “Mind Cure” and a number of spirit-filled Morning Mannas.
Elder Peter Lewis brought out with great clarity God’s wonderful plan of “Home Sanitariums”. We saw that this is one God’s great agencies in the finishing of His work. Preparatory to the sanctuary being cleansed in Heaven, God is looking to cleanse His people here on this earth and no better way can He carry out this plan than through His sanitariums. Note:
The purpose of our health institutions is not first and foremost to be that of hospitals. The health institutions connected with the closing work of the gospel in the earth stand for the great principles of the gospel in all its fullness. Christ is the one to be revealed in all the institutions connected with the closing work, but none of them can do it so fully as the health institution where the sick and suffering come for relief and deliverance from both physical and spiritual ailment. Many of these need, like the paralytic of old, the forgiveness of sin the first thing, and they need to learn how to "go, and sin no more." {MM 27.4}
Dr. Jackson gave a series of meetings that culminated with the need to revive the home life. The true value of a Christian home is understood but by few. God wants our families to be a picture of the life of heaven. He also desires that our homes might be used as a channel whereby true missionary outpost work can be done. To understand this plan more fully, it was admonished that the book Home Leadership be obtained and prayerfully read by all families. (http://www.meetministry.org/books/home-leadership)
Elder Bob Jorgensen delivered an awakening message entitled “The Spirit of Madison”, where he gave us a glimpse into the life of the Madison school and the sacrificial spirit that presided there. Although we may not be able to duplicate to the full extent what Madison did, we can do a similar work with the same mission and purpose in mind. He also gave a meaningful message on the importance of “True Education” and it’s relation to the closing work.
Elder Narlon Edwards in his “A Body Hast Thou Prepared” gave us a compelling breakdown of how God is looking to build up His body in order to carry the work through to completion. It was brought out that the four extensions of Teaching, Preaching, Healing and Publishing are the methods that will be used to build this body and, in essence, usher in the close. He also stressed in “A Very Serious One” the fact that unless the people of God are taking part in Medical Missionary Work and agriculture, they will not be prepared for the crisis ahead.
