Christ's Method of Evangelism in the United Kingdom

“The medical missionary work has never been presented to me in any other way than as bearing the same relation to the work as a whole as the arm does to the body. The gospel ministry is an organization for the proclamation of the truth and the carrying forward of the work for the sick and well. This is the body, the medical missionary work is the arm, and Christ is the head over all. Thus the matter has been presented to me.”  Medical Ministry, p. 237

Therefore the body, which treats indifferently the right hand, refusing its aid, is able to accomplish nothing… In new fields no work is so successful as medical missionary work.” Medical Missionary, pp. 238, 239

Under the direction of the divine Head they are to work unitedly in preparing the way for the coming of Christ. The right arm of the body of truth is to be constantly active, constantly at work, and God will strengthen it. But it is not to be made the body. At the same time the body is not to say to the arm: "I have no need of thee." The body has need of the arm in order to do active, aggressive work. Both have their appointed work, and each will suffer great loss if worked independently of the other.  {6T 288.1}

Those who disparage the ministry and try to conduct the medical missionary work independently are trying to separate the arm from the body. What would be the result should they succeed? We should see hands and arms flying about, dispensing means without the direction of the head. The work would become disproportionate and unbalanced. That which God designed should be the hand and arm would take the place of the whole body, and the ministry would be belittled or altogether ignored. This would unsettle minds and bring in confusion, and many portions of the Lord's vineyard would be left unworked.  {6T 288}

The medical missionary work should be a part of the work of every church in our land. Disconnected from the church it would soon become a strange medley of disorganized atoms. {6T 289.1}

Medical missionary work is in no case to be divorced from the gospel ministry. The Lord has specified that the two shall be as closely connected as the arm is with the body. Without this union neither part of the work is complete. The medical missionary work is the gospel in illustration.      {6T 240.3}

The gospel ministry is needed to give permanence and stability to the medical missionary work; and the ministry needs the medical missionary work to demonstrate the practical working of the gospel. Neither part of the work is complete without the other.  {6T 289.2}

Matthew 19:6 “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

These inspired statements clearly outline God’s divine method of preparing the way for the reception of the Three Angels Messages as revealed in Revelation 14, thus preparing a people for the soon second coming of Jesus Christ.

During His ministry here on earth, Jesus Christ made it a priority to bring about a revival and reformation among the house of Israel thus preparing them to evangelize the then know world. Matthew 10: 1-8.

He sought to empower and equip the church for evangelism.  Matt 10: 1-7

Every church should be a training school for Christian workers. Its members should be taught how to give Bible readings, how to conduct and teach Sabbath-school classes, how best to help the poor and to care for the sick, how to work for the unconverted. There should be schools of health, cooking schools, and classes in various lines of Christian help work. {MH 149.2}

There should not only be teaching, but actual work under experienced instructors. Let the teachers lead the way in working among the people, and others, uniting with them, will learn from their example. One example is worth more than many precepts.  {MH 149.2}

This became the mandate for the SDA North England Conference (NEC) of the United Kingdom when they invited M.E.E.T. Ministry to come and conduct a two-week intense Gospel-Health Evangelism training school for their pastors, conference leaders and lay members; inspiring and equipping them with Christ’s method of evangelizing the cities of the United Kingdom.

Christ's method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them,"Follow Me." {MH 143.3}

M.E.E.T. Ministry partnered with Mission To The Cities (MTTC) of Manchester, England, which is a mission of NEC to carry out the training.  Seventy plus individuals participated in the training, completing the course.  Churches of the NEC were represented.

Combine medical missionary work with the proclamation of the third angel's message. Make regular, organized efforts to lift the church members out of the dead level in which they have been for years. Send out into the churches workers who will live the principles of health reform. Let those be sent who can see the necessity of self-denial in appetite, or they will be a snare to the church. See if the breath of life will not then come into our churches. A new element needs to be brought into the work. God's people must realize their great need and peril, and take up the work that lies nearest them.”  {6T 267.1}

The trainees returned back to their local churches using the tools that they received from the training to teach and equip the members for reaching souls through the true method of evangelism.  2Timothy 2:1-2.

We have come to a time when every member of the church should take hold of medical missionary work. The world is a lazar house filled with victims of both physical and spiritual disease. Everywhere people are perishing for lack of knowledge of the truths that have been committed to us. The members of the church are in need of an awakening, that they may realize their responsibility to impart these truths.  Testimonies, Vol. 7, p. 62.  {CME 10.5}

The classes were conducted during the day while we conducted public health evangelism meetings for four evenings called Health, Hope and Healing.  Each night we witnessed the power of God resting upon the attendees through the presentation of the principles of health connected with the gospel.  One precious soul, a Muslim by decent, came nightly walking with a cane with severe joint pain. She sat up front nursing her pain. We took note and provided her with GODS PLAN to help her condition. She followed the plan and on the last night she came to the meeting walking, skipping and praising God for her relief.

“Do medical missionary work. Thus you will gain access to the hearts of the people. The way will be prepared for more decided proclamation of the truth. You will find that relieving their physical suffering gives an opportunity to minister to their spiritual needs.” {Ev 514}

The trainees took part in the evening meetings as part of their training.  We provided health consultations to personally assist individuals with their health concerns.  Through this training and evangelistic methods hearts were opened for the reception of Jesus Christ. Praise God!

Finally, I had the privilege to be invited by the NEC conference president to speak to all the pastors and conference leaders on God’s true method of evangelism. This was a high point in our labor in England.  Witnessing the power of God moving on the hearts of the leaders to embrace God’s true method of evangelism of combining the right arm with the Three Angels Messages. To God be the glory.

When properly conducted, the health work is an entering wedge, making a way for other truths to reach the heart. When the third angel's message is received in its fullness, health reform will be given its place in the councils of the conference, in the work of the church, in the home, at the table, and in all the household arrangements. Then the right arm will serve and protect the body. {6T 327}
