News, Updates & Resources
Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions; for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one…
This statement is a fitting description of what will soon take place as an overwhelming surprise to many of God’s people. We have been warned time and time again of an impending crisis. Of course we know this to be the passing of a National Sunday Law, but in a very real sense, it also has a bearing on the times leading up to this enactment.
In recent times, the current “food crisis” has been coming to the forefront of the general public. The overall food supply has been compromised with the advent of genetically modified foods and only recently are people voicing their concerns of these tampered provisions. In fact, an Op-Ed article recently published by CNN, “The Coming Food Disaster1”, Professor David Schubert shares the horrid results of continual exposure to the popular and prevalent uses of herbicides and insecticides in commercial production. The question to be asked is, “Have the children of this world become wiser than the children of light?” [Luke 16:8] We have frequently been told of the great import of growing our own food. Now is the time to take heed to this counsel or else we will find ourselves wanting. In the wisdom of God, He gave us a plan to combat this widespread adulteration. Notice,
In God's plan for Israel every family had a home on the land, with sufficient ground for tilling. Thus were provided both the means and the incentive for a useful, industrious, and self-supporting life. And no devising of men has ever improved upon that plan. To the world's departure from it is owing, to a large degree, the poverty and wretchedness that exist today. {MH 183.3}
So what is the solution to the food crisis issue? Quite simply, going back to God’s original plan. We know this was the first work, God’s appointed method of labor for the race. It is to the world’s departure from it that there are so many issues today. Issues of disease, idleness, hunger and all the rest.
And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. Genesis 2:8
We know all too well that we are what we eat and if we continue to feed our systems with inferior and altogether dangerous foods, we ultimately will reap what we sow. It is for this reason that we should seriously consider, and more than that, act on producing a garden this year for the health of ourselves and our families. It is essential for the maintenance and wellbeing of our body functions that we supply it with the most nutritious food available. Besides that, planning a garden is an activity where the whole family can take part in. God designed that all His people take part in this work regardless of age, status or profession.What a wonderful opportunity to involve the children where they could learn of nature and nature’s God. Ample character-building lessons of patience, industry and persistence are altogether needful to learn in preparation for the times to come.
We can recall a time in Egypt when there was a great famine in the land and the children of light had to go to Egypt to receive portions of food. Thank God there was a Joseph in the land and he was able to solve this problem in the great time of crisis. Many a person, whom God is even now preparing, are living in obscurity as was Joseph in the dungeon. Unknown to the world, they will soon take center-stage when called upon to provide the answers to life’s problems.
There is to be a repeat of this in our times coupled with an even greater famine. Note,
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. -Amos 8:11,12
Are we preparing ourselves now to be the Joseph's in Egypt when our dear brothers and sisters who have not made the proper provisions and who have not prepared themselves or their families for this time of trouble... are we preparing that ark that God has called us to in these last days? Oh my brothers and sisters I pray God we will do our part to ensure that we are a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. Oh that we might seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near!
