The Pioneer Work: God's Helping Hand

The question is asked by Inspiration, “What, then, is the example that we are to set before the world?” 

It goes on to say, “We are to do the same work that the great Medical Missionary undertook in our behalf… God’s purpose in committing to men and women the mission that He committed to Christ is to disentangle His followers from all worldly policy and to give them a work identical with the work that Christ did. – {MM 20.3; 24.5}

What was this work? Further, how are we to begin to engage in it? The Bible makes it very clear that we are to “follow His steps”. What were the steps trodden by our Savior? None other than gospel medical missionary work. He who “went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil” gave us a clear depiction of what He desires all of His followers to be. When we study His life, we get a sense of His great mission and purpose and if we are heart to heart with Him, we too will find ourselves patterning after His life and work. 

Asks the Messenger, “Who are laborers together with Christ in this blessed medical missionary work? Who have learned the lessons of the Master and know how to deal skillfully with souls for whom Christ has died?” - {CH 500.1}

In sum, note these inspired words: 

Medical missionary work is the pioneer work of the gospel, the door through which the truth for this time is to find entrance to many homes. God’s people are to be genuine medical missionaries, for they are to learn to minister to the needs of both soul and body… As they go from house to house they will find access to many hearts. Many will be reached who otherwise never would have heard the gospel message. A demonstration of the principles of health reform will do much toward removing prejudice against our evangelical work. The Great Physician, the originator of medical missionary work, will bless all who thus seek to impart the truth for this time. – {CH 497.1}
